From Tabloids to Tranquility: Marla Maples Builds a Life on Her Own Terms

Once one of the most photographed women in America due to her headline-grabbing romance with Donald Trump, Marla Maples has long since traded tabloid drama for a quietly purposeful existence — one centered on wellness, spiritual growth, and family.

From Georgia Roots to New York Glamour
Marla Maples was born on October 27, 1963, in Cohutta, Georgia, where she described her childhood as “storybook-perfect”. She was elected homecoming queen in high school, excelled in sports, and briefly pursued a marketing degree at the University of Georgia before setting her sights on New York City. It was there, in 1985, that she first crossed paths with Donald Trump — a meeting that would define much of the next decade of her life.

A Turbulent Romance Made Public
Maples recalled knowing by 1988 that she was in love with Trump, even as his marriage to Ivana Trump was unraveling. Their relationship became tabloid fodder when gossip column Page Six published her name and photo, pulling her into a very public scandal. “I realized that we had both been deceived,” Maples later said of a tense encounter with Ivana in Colorado, adding, “You’re left in a very uncomfortable position — and the world knows about it”.

Marriage, Prenup, and Divorce
The couple married in 1993 and welcomed their daughter, Tiffany Trump, the same year. Before the wedding, Maples signed a tough prenuptial agreement — reportedly, she sought $25 million, but Trump agreed to only $1 million if they separated within five years, plus an additional $1 million for a house, according to Vanity Fair. The marriage ended in 1999. “He and I were so different,” Maples later told Access Hollywood, acknowledging that despite their hopes, they ultimately couldn’t bring out the best in each other.

A ‘Rural’ Reinvention in California
After the divorce, Maples relocated to Los Angeles with Tiffany, settling in the upscale neighborhood of Calabasas. Rather than chase the spotlight, she deliberately recreated a simpler life reminiscent of her Georgia upbringing — cooking organic meals, enjoying movie nights with Tiffany, and keeping a trampoline in the backyard. “We were always together,” Tiffany recalled. “She gave me the chance to have a normal childhood”. Maples also made deliberate efforts to maintain Tiffany’s relationship with her father, flying her to New York several times a year to spend time with Trump and his wife Melania.

Entertainment, Wellness, and the MAHA Movement
Maples never fully stepped away from public life. She appeared in films and TV shows including Clueless and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, interviewed NBA star Michael Jordan for Inside Edition, released an album (The Endless, 2013), and competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2016. Behind the scenes, she also played a quiet but meaningful political role — reportedly helping to broker the relationship between Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump that led to the Make America Healthy Again wellness movement.

Her passion for wellness has become her defining mission. Through her venture SoulShine Journeys, Maples offers spiritual retreats and transformation programs designed to help participants “shed what they need to shed and move into their highest good,” blending ancestral healing traditions with modern biohacking practices. She has described her philosophy simply: “I always say your joy is what really is ageless and timeless”.

Back in New York — and Now a Grandmother
Maples, now 62, has returned to New York City, where she continues to develop SoulShine Journeys as a spiritual travel and personal growth enterprise. She has been spotted at high-profile events, including the 2025 Grammys, where she appeared on the red carpet with Indian composer Ricky Kej. In May 2025, she reached perhaps her most joyful milestone yet: becoming a grandmother when Tiffany and her husband Michael Boulos welcomed son Alexander Trump Boulos on May 15, 2025.

Maples enthusiastically embraced her new role, dubbing herself “Gran Mar Mar” and commenting on Tiffany’s announcement post: “No greater joy in the world. Michael and Tiffany, this Gran Mar Mar loves you all so much!! You rocked it, my girl!”.

Marla Maples’ story is, at its core, one of deliberate reinvention. After years of living under the intense scrutiny that came with being Donald Trump’s wife, she made a conscious choice to reclaim her identity — not through fame, but through purpose. Her pivot toward holistic wellness, spiritual entrepreneurship, and low-key motherhood reflects a broader cultural trend of public figures stepping back from celebrity to pursue meaning over visibility. Now, as grandmother and wellness advocate, Maples appears to have found the life she always wanted — one that began, fittingly, in the quiet of rural Georgia.
