Forklift Survivor’s Shocking Update: How He Handles Life’s Most Personal Challenge After Being Crushed in Half

In 2019, 18-year-old Loren Schauers from Montana faced a nightmare on a construction site when his forklift plunged off a bridge, crushing his lower body and right arm under its massive weight. Doctors performed a rare hemicorporectomy, amputating everything below his waist to save his life, leaving him with just his torso and one arm. Now, years into his remarkable recovery, Loren and his devoted wife Sabia are tackling the top question fans keep asking on their popular YouTube channel.

The Accident That Defied Survival Odds
Loren was navigating a narrow bridge when passing cars forced him too close to the edge, causing the forklift to tip over a 50-foot drop. Trapped by his seatbelt, he endured the machine rolling and landing directly on his pelvis and forearm, shattering bones and severing limbs in an instant. Rushed to the hospital, he chose amputation over death, telling surgeons to proceed even if it left him as “a head on a plate.”

Answering the Question Everyone Wants to Know
Viewers of Sabia and Loren’s channel, which has hundreds of thousands of subscribers, bombard them with personal queries, but one stands out: how does he manage bathroom needs without a lower body? In a candid Q&A, Loren explained he has a colostomy—his colon routed through an abdominal opening into a bag for waste—and bilateral nephrostomies, tubes draining his kidneys directly into collection bags for urine. “That’s how I poop, pee, and fart,” he shared plainly, while Sabia handles bag changes as part of her caregiving role.

Thriving with Unwavering Support
Married since 2021, the couple shares daily life updates, from Loren’s independent tasks like streaming games to family bonding time. Recent posts mark six years post-accident, with Loren grateful for Sabia: “I have an amazing wife who stuck by my side.” Stories across outlets like People and LADbible confirm the details, highlighting his inspiring resilience without major discrepancies.
