Federal and local law enforcement intercepted an armed man who allegedly impersonated security officers while photographing preparations at Donald Trump’s California golf club.

Federal agents arrested 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday. The arrest occurred just two days before Trump arrived to host a major Republican National Committee fundraising dinner.

According to court documents filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, federal agents first spotted Taele wandering the property during a preliminary security assessment. Witnesses observed Taele wearing an earpiece while filming and taking photos of federal security operations.

When agents confronted him, Taele claimed he worked for the U.S. State Department on an official security detail.

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department searched Taele and discovered a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition in his pocket. Investigators escalated the case on Monday after executing a search warrant at Taele’s residence in nearby Downey, California.

Inside the home, law enforcement officers recovered an illegally modified short-barreled rifle, body armor, multiple high-capacity magazines, and large quantities of ammunition. Authorities also seized multiple notebooks containing what officials described as “concerning statements.”

Public records and military service logs indicate Taele is a former U.S. Marine Corps corporal who served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Facing Federal and State Charges
Prosecutors charged Taele in state court with felony counts including possession of a short-barreled rifle and receiving a large-capacity magazine, along with a misdemeanor concealed carry charge.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office filed an additional federal complaint charging Taele with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle.

Taele pleaded not guilty to state charges during his arraignment. A judge set his bail at $250,000 and issued a protective order barring him from possessing weapons or entering the golf club grounds.

“Mr. Taele’s troubling behavior at the President’s public golf course merely days before the President was expected to arrive raised serious red flags for law enforcement,” FBI Assistant Director Patrick Grandy said in an official statement.
