President Donald Trump has weighed in after New York City’s newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani called him out during his election night celebration.
The president isn’t holding back, and he’s sent a clear warning to his emerging political adversary.
Celebration in Brooklyn
The political conversation dominating America this week centers on Zohran Mamdani’s groundbreaking win in New York City’s mayoral contest.
Standing before an electric crowd in Brooklyn on election night, the 34-year-old Mamdani stepped up to claim victory with a speech that pulled no punches against Donald Trump.
“New York will continue as an immigrant city, constructed by immigrants, energized by immigrants and, starting tonight, governed by an immigrant,” he declared, before adding: “If there’s anyone capable of demonstrating to a nation let down by Donald Trump how to beat him, it’s the very city that produced him.”
His remarks didn’t end there, though.
Moving quickly, Mamdani confronted Trump head-on, telegraphing the political confrontations ahead. Standing before the energized assembly, he launched four deliberate words straight at the commander-in-chief:
“Donald Trump, knowing you’re tuned in, here are four words: turn the volume up!”
Trump Responds
There’s little question that Donald Trump harbors no fondness for Zohran Mamdani — the president has consistently branded him a communist, despite Mamdani characterizing his own ideology as democratic socialist.
Naturally, people were anticipating Trump’s initial take on Mamdani’s address, and the president has now delivered his first official remarks.
Speaking with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, Trump hit back on Wednesday, declaring that New York City’s incoming mayor overstepped. The president took issue with the combative victory remarks, characterizing them as “hostile toward me” and “extremely dangerous.”
“That’s an extremely dangerous thing for him to say,” Trump stated.
“He needs to maintain some level of respect for Washington, because without that, his odds of achieving anything are basically zero.”
“Slimy Newscum, right?”
The president had earlier indicated he would deliver just the “absolute minimum” in federal funding to New York City should Mamdani capture City Hall.
Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami on Wednesday, Trump also set his sights on California Governor Gavin Newsom, rolling out a fresh nickname for his enduring political opponent.
“Perhaps that ought to be his nickname — Slimy. Slimy Newscum, right?” Trump remarked, drawing chuckles from those assembled.
Newsom fired back swiftly on X, posting just two words:
“You lost.”
Back in California, both Governor Newsom and Secretary of State Shirley Weber found themselves named as defendants in legal action brought by state Republicans following voter approval of Proposition 50, an initiative permitting the state to restructure congressional district lines.
