Tragic Badminton Accident Claims Life of 6-Year-Old Girl Who Hoped to Be ‘Saved’

A family from New Jersey is grappling with an unimaginable loss after their 6-year-old daughter, Lucy Morgan, died in a freak accident while on vacation.

The tragedy unfolded as Lucy watched her family enjoy a game of badminton. In a heartbreaking twist, a racquet shattered during a downward swing, sending a piece of metal from the handle flying. The sharp fragment struck Lucy in the skull, inflicting a devastating brain injury.

Lucy’s father, Pastor Jesse Morgan, shared the tragic sequence of events on his blog, New Creation Living. He described how June 1, a seemingly ordinary day of family fun in Limerick, Maine, turned into a nightmare. Now, the grieving father finds solace in his faith, believing his little girl is at peace in heaven.

After the accident, Lucy became unresponsive but continued to breathe on her own. Recognizing the severity of her injury, her mother, Bethany Morgan, accompanied her in an ambulance to a local hospital. Lucy was then airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland for emergency care. Despite their efforts, the injury proved fatal.

Tragedy struck the Morgan family after their 6-year-old daughter, Lucy Morgan, succumbed to a severe brain injury following a freak badminton accident. Despite exhaustive medical efforts, Lucy passed away in the early hours of the morning, leaving her family and community in mourning.

Lucy’s father, Pastor Jesse Morgan, documented the heartbreaking journey on his blog, New Creation Living. He revealed that doctors performed emergency surgery to remove part of Lucy’s skull to alleviate pressure from the injury. “She coded, they got her back, and they completed the surgery,” he wrote. However, the prognosis remained grim. “In the PICU we are being told that there is a very slim chance she recovers.”

Lucy’s faith and spiritual journey provided a glimmer of solace to her grieving parents. Just a month before the accident, Lucy expressed her desire to be “saved” and live with God. According to Jesse, Lucy had a heartfelt conversation with her mother before retreating to her room to pray. “She went to her room and prayed to God to forgive her and that she believed in Jesus’ death and resurrection. What a gift,” he shared.

Despite medical intervention, Lucy could not recover from the injuries caused by the sharp metal fragment. The devastating blow to her skull left little hope of survival. On the morning of her passing, Jesse shared a poignant update:

“No blog post today. Lucy Lynn Morgan passed away this morning around 4am. She now sees Jesus face to face. Thank you for all your love poured out to us. This picture is from goodbyes earlier in the day.”

Lucy’s story has touched the hearts of many, and her family is finding strength through their faith and the outpouring of support from loved ones and their community.

The Morgan family has shared heart-wrenching updates on their blog as they grieve the loss of their beloved 6-year-old daughter, Lucy Morgan. Lucy suffered a catastrophic brain injury in a freak accident and tragically passed away, leaving her parents and community devastated.

The day before Lucy’s passing, her father, Pastor Jesse Morgan, wrote a deeply emotional post on his blog, New Creation Living, sharing the harsh reality of the situation. “The significant lack of brain function over the past 48 hours demonstrates this reality that we are utterly devastated by. If there is any good news in this, it’s that she hasn’t felt any pain over the past few days,” he shared.

The family remained steadfast in their faith, continuing to pray for a miracle. “We will keep waiting on the Lord, getting second opinions, and exhausting every possible avenue while crying out to God for a miracle,” Jesse added. However, he acknowledged the inevitable: “Our beloved daughter has been showing all the signs of brain death for the past few days. There is a very good chance that she passes away and meets Jesus within 24 hours.”

In the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, the Morgan family has been embraced by a wave of love and support. Friends, family, and strangers have shared heartfelt messages on social media, paying tribute to Lucy and offering comfort to her grieving parents.

Dan Cruver, a former professor of Jesse Morgan, reflected on Jesse’s character in a moving Facebook post. “Jesse Morgan was a student of mine when I taught Bible and theology at Clarks Summit University 18 years ago. I remember quite a lot of students, but there are a few that you remember because they frequently engaged you after class and asked thoughtful, insightful questions. Jesse was one of those students,” he wrote.

To help the Morgans during this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been established and has already exceeded expectations. Initially set at $100,000, the campaign is now nearing its updated goal of $130,000, with over $125,000 raised. The funds will provide the family with much-needed financial relief as they navigate this heartbreaking chapter.

Lucy’s story has touched the hearts of many, serving as a reminder of the strength of faith, love, and community in times of profound loss.

Jill Anthony, the organizer of a GoFundMe campaign for the Morgan family, has shared updates and heartfelt messages as the community continues to support them in the wake of their devastating loss.

“This page serves as a place to provide them extravagant financial support—to help pay for meals while they are away from home, lodging for family, medical costs … whatever they need,” Anthony wrote on the campaign page, emphasizing the importance of easing the family’s burdens during this unimaginable time.

In a recent update, Anthony shared the heartbreaking news: “June 5, Lucy went to be with the Lord. Please keep praying for the Morgans as they walk through these next days, weeks, months, and years without their sweet Lucy here with them.”

The outpouring of love and generosity for the Morgan family has been overwhelming. Donations to the campaign have surpassed expectations, providing critical financial relief to help them navigate this tragic chapter.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the Morgan family as they mourn the loss of their beloved Lucy. May they find comfort in the love and prayers surrounding them.
