When Violence Comes Calling: A Family’s Harrowing Night in Liverpool

The evening of November 24th began like any other for a family in Liverpool’s Norris Green neighbourhood. By the time it ended, their sense of safety had been shattered.
Shortly before 8 p.m., a 13-year-old boy stepped out to meet two friends near the Aldi supermarket on Lorenzo Drive. The three teenagers had two electric bikes between them — a common sight among young people in the area. What happened next would leave the boy’s mother unable to sleep, unable to work, and unable to forget.
Three figures emerged from the shadows. They wore black from head to toe, their faces hidden behind balaclavas, their hands covered by gloves. They carried knives — not small blades, but weapons the mother would later describe as terrifyingly large, including one measuring roughly twelve inches.
The demand was simple: hand over the bikes.
The 13-year-old made a split-second decision. He hurled his bike toward the attackers and ran. One of the masked youths climbed onto it and shouted threats after him, gesturing menacingly with his arms.
Then came the phone call.
The boy’s mother, 33, heard her son’s voice — panicked, breathless, screaming that someone was trying to stab him. She and her husband stood frozen, listening to their child’s terror through the phone speaker, powerless to reach him.
“I honestly thought he was dying while on the phone to me,” she said.
He wasn’t. The boy escaped, as did his two friends. When his parents finally reached him, he couldn’t stop shaking.
The family has barely functioned since. The boy rarely leaves home now. His parents lay awake the entire night following the attack, the echo of that phone call replaying endlessly. Both missed work the next day.
“I can’t get that phone call out of my mind,” his mother said. “I just kept thinking — where’s my son? Is he alive?”
She noted that bike thefts have become increasingly common in the area, but the level of aggression in this attack marked a disturbing escalation. These weren’t opportunistic thieves — they came armed and ready for confrontation.
Merseyside Police have confirmed an active investigation. Detective Inspector Lee Egerton acknowledged the trauma inflicted on both the victims and their families, emphasising that finding those responsible remains a priority.
“This would have been a terrifying experience,” he said. “Thankfully no one was hurt, but we are determined to find the three males responsible.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Merseyside Police before another child becomes a target.

Summary: A 13-year-old boy in Liverpool was confronted by three masked, knife-wielding youths who attempted to steal his electric bike. He escaped unharmed after throwing the bike at the attackers and fleeing, but his mother has spoken out about the traumatic phone call she received during the ordeal — hearing her son screaming that he was being stabbed while she stood helpless. Police are actively investigating the incident.
