Then, without warning, the otter’s demeanor shifted. It started pacing anxiously, returned to the girl, pressed against her stomach, then plunged back into the water only to resurface moments later. Its behavior became increasingly agitated—it made soft, worried sounds and patted the rock with its paws.
“She’s probably just worn out,” the father remarked casually. “Let’s head to the next exhibit.”
As they walked away from the otter area, a man wearing a zoo staff badge approached them.
“Pardon me,” he said softly. “I’m an employee here. I noticed you were just visiting Luna’s enclosure—our otter?”
“Yes, she was wonderful,” the mother responded warmly.
The man took a deep breath before continuing with unmistakable concern,
“Please don’t panic, but I strongly recommend you have your daughter examined by a physician as soon as possible.”
The parents stared at each other, bewildered.

“Yes. There was a young boy she examined similarly a while back. His family later discovered he had an early-stage tumor. She detects scents that are invisible to us. You might dismiss it as coincidence… but if she were my child, I wouldn’t hesitate to get her checked out.”
The parents stood frozen, unable to speak. Initially, they tried to rationalize it away, but the zookeeper’s words lingered. The following morning, they scheduled a medical appointment.
After running tests, the physicians delivered news that justified their concern:
“It’s fortunate you came when you did. We’ve caught this in the beginning stages, which means treatment will be highly effective.”
