For several days in a row, a little girl appeared at my front door right around noon. She was adorable — neatly dressed, rosy cheeks glowing, a small teddy bear clutched tightly in her arms.
She would stand silently for a few minutes, staring straight into my doorbell camera, as if waiting for something… or someone. Then, just as quietly as she arrived, she’d run off — vanishing around the corner before anyone could stop her.
At first, I didn’t think much of it. But when it kept happening day after day — always the same time, the same way — an uneasy feeling began to grow inside me. Why was this child wandering alone? Where were her parents?
I worked most days when she came, so I never managed to open the door in time to ask her anything. Each recording looked eerily similar — that same little face, the same knock, the same quick retreat.
Soon, worry turned into fear. What if she was in trouble? What if she was running from something?
One evening, after watching the footage again and again, I decided I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I drove straight to the police station and showed them the videos. The officers quickly tracked down the girl’s family and asked her mother to come in.
That’s when the truth came out — and it was nothing like I expected. 😲😱
When the woman arrived and heard what was going on, she burst out laughing, wiping tears from her eyes.
“I’m so sorry,” she said between laughs. “My daughter is just at that curious age. We live nearby, and we often walk down your street. Every time we pass your house, she says, ‘I want to say hello to that nice lady!’ She runs to your door, rings the bell, and then comes right back. I always wait for her by the gate.”
I was stunned.
“But… why my house?” I asked.
The woman smiled warmly.
“You probably don’t remember,” she said, “but one summer day, my daughter tripped and fell outside your yard. You came out and gave her an apple to cheer her up. Ever since then, she’s felt she needs to come by and wish you a good day.”
The police sergeant and I exchanged glances — and then we both started laughing.
The “mystery visitor” I’d been so worried about turned out to be nothing more than a sweet little girl who simply wanted to say hello to the woman who once showed her a small act of kindness. ❤️
