Little Mary objects to the inappropriate question
Little Mary shot to her feet, folded her arms defensively across her chest, and declared, “This isn’t the kind of question you should be throwing at sixth graders! I’m reporting this to my parents, and they’re marching straight to the principal’s office, and you’re going to lose your job!”
Mrs. Parks remained unfazed and repeated her inquiry, “Let’s give this another shot. Which part of the body expands to 10 times its normal size when stimulated?”
Little Mary’s jaw dropped open. She thrust her finger toward her teacher and shrieked, “You’re in serious trouble now!”
The teacher paid her no attention and addressed the rest of the room, “Anyone else?”
Eventually, Billy rose from his seat, glanced around anxiously, and answered, “The part of the body that grows 10 times larger when stimulated would be the pupil in the eye.”
Mrs. Parks beamed and responded, “Excellent answer, Billy.”
She then shifted her attention to Mary and added, “Now, as for you, young lady, let me share three observations: First, your mind went somewhere it shouldn’t have. Second, you obviously skipped doing your homework. And third, someday you’re going to face some serious disappointment.”
