Erika Kirk Opens Up About Heartbreaking Conversation With Her Daughter After Charlie’s Death

Erika Kirk now finds herself raising two young children alone after the tragic loss of her husband, Charlie Kirk. Since his murder, she has spoken openly about her grief while vowing to carry forward the mission and values he stood for. Appearing on The Charlie Kirk Show—a program their children once watched religiously—Erika recently revealed the tender reason behind her daughter’s deep connection to her father’s work.

In the weeks following Charlie’s passing, Erika has remained steadfast in keeping his voice alive. Just days after his death, she delivered a heartfelt message from the very studio where her husband recorded his show. Fighting through her pain, she shared the depth of her family’s loss while honoring the man who built a legacy on courage and faith.

In an emotional video, Erika revealed that she has not yet found the words to fully explain their father’s absence to their children—a daughter born in August 2022 and a son born in May 2024. Instead, she told them something she believed Charlie himself would have wanted them to hear: that he was on a “work trip with Jesus.”

“Charlie always said he wanted to be remembered for his courage and his faith,” Erika said through tears. “He loved our children beyond words, and he loved me with all of his heart. My husband gave his life for me, for our children, and for this nation.”

She then shared one of the most painful moments since his passing. “When I got home last night, our daughter Gigi came running into my arms. She looked at me and said, ‘Mommy, I missed you.’ I told her, ‘I missed you too, sweetheart.’ Then she asked, ‘Where’s Daddy?’ What do you say to a three-year-old? I told her, ‘Baby, Daddy loves you so much. Don’t worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus—so he can make sure you always have your blueberry budget.’”

Though Charlie and Erika were intentional about keeping their children out of the public eye, Erika recently shared a touching detail about the special bond Charlie had with his daughter. Speaking on Fox, she explained why little Gigi insisted on watching her father’s show.

Every time Charlie sat down at his desk, he carried one of his daughter’s toys with him.

“That was their little connection,” Erika said softly. “And he cherished it. It gave him a way to keep a piece of her with him on the show. And she loved it, too.”
