Old “I’ve Got Cancer” Clip Fuels Fresh Rumors After Biden’s Late-Stage Diagnosis

An unexpected health update about former U.S. president Joe Biden has collided with a three-year-old sound-bite, sparking a torrent of speculation online.

Last week the 82-year-old statesman learned he has a high-grade, metastasized prostate cancer. The tumor carries a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) but remains hormone-responsive, giving doctors several avenues for treatment. The discovery followed a check-up for worsening urinary problems, and a statement from Biden’s office stressed that therapy would begin immediately.

Political rivals and longtime allies alike rushed to send good wishes. Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he and Melania were “saddened” and hoped for a speedy recovery, while Kamala Harris and Barack Obama praised Biden’s decades-long fight to improve cancer care and voiced confidence in his resilience.

Why wasn’t it caught sooner?
The late detection puzzled several physicians. Yale radiologist Dr Howie Forman called it “inconceivable” that a figure with Biden’s medical access could reach Stage 4 without earlier red-flag PSA tests. Fox News analyst Dr Marc Siegel echoed those concerns, pointing out that aggressive prostate tumors are usually identifiable years before they spread. Cancer researcher Dr Steven Quay went further, saying the timeline suggests Biden may have carried the disease throughout his presidency.

A 2022 “gaffe” returns
Amid the medical debate, conspiracy-minded users resurfaced video from July 2022 in which President Biden, speaking about industrial pollution in Massachusetts, remarked, “That’s why I—and so many people I grew up with—have cancer.” At the time, the White House clarified he was referring to basal-cell skin cancers removed prior to taking office, and the moment was largely dismissed as a slip-up. Now the clip has gone viral again, with critics claiming it proves a cover-up of a long-known illness.

Posts on X accuse Biden’s doctors of hiding test results, joke about clandestine chemotherapy, and question whether the 2024 campaign was mounted despite knowledge of advanced disease. Supporters counter that prostate and skin cancers are unrelated and urge respect for patient privacy.

The road ahead
While social-media detectives sift old footage for clues, oncologists emphasize that hormone-sensitive metastatic prostate cancer can still respond well to modern therapies. Biden’s team says further updates will follow once a treatment plan is finalized. For now, the former president finds himself waging two battles at once: one against an aggressive cancer, and another against a rumor mill that rarely sleeps.
